Monday’s thoughts
“What Do You Say To a Fundamentalist?”
Sermon for Sunday, July 8th.
How many times we find people going door-to-door trying to convince us we are on the road to perdition and if we don’t change our sinful ways we will find ourselves eternally condemned! Some people have family members who have found religion and who have made family reunions unpleasant because of their evangelizing efforts. What do you say to people who seem to have a heavy dose of religion to the point that they want to convert you? How do you keep from being rude? What is appropriate and what is out of bounds? When do we, in an effort to fend them off, become like them in our resistance to them?
Sunday’s sermon will explore a subject that is really important to us. The truth is, if we have a conviction of faith that we feel is workable for us do we not, also, have an obligation to share it? What a fundamentalist Christian who is aggressively evangelistic is doing we may find objectionable, but, in some way, do we not have an obligation to share our faith as we have found it?
I’m interested in your experiences with fundamental Christians and how you handle their attempts to convert you. Write me at charlesschuster@fcfumc.net. If you are willing to allow others to see your response click on the ‘comments’ box below.
I look forward to hearing from you.
